Dr Vivienne Decleva, DEd, MNsgStudies, MCounselling, ProCertPositivePsych, BAdvNsg (Ed), DipAppSci (CommHlthNsg), RN Div1, CertDisabilityNsg, CertIV TAE.

After completing three years of a Diploma in Primary Teaching, I graduated in Disability Nursing, General Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Bachelor Advanced Nursing (Education Stream) and Master of Nursing Studies (Nurse Education).

I have completed a Doctorate of Education, a Masters of Counselling and a Professional Certificate in Positive Psychology. These qualifications have further enhanced my skills and effectiveness for teaching the new generation of students.

In the past, I have worked in the areas of disabilities, family therapy and community nursing, providing nursing care, teaching and counselling to clients and their families. Presently I am involved in the areas of community and mental health nursing.

As an educator, I have worked as a Study Skills Adviser. In this position, I was responsible for one to one teaching and counselling of students in the tertiary sector. I assisted in the development of study material and presented workshops on study skills.

In formal programs, I have been involved in the coordination development, implementation and evaluation of curricula, course design and teaching activities for Certificates III in Aged Care Work and Division IV Nursing (Disability Nursing).  Currently, I am involved in the teaching, assessment and curriculum development of the Diploma of Nursing. I have monitored and supported students’ progress and mentored new teachers.

I have a strong commitment and dedication to adult education, particularly nurse education.

I regard education to be a way of empowering students. I believe that now more than ever, teachers have the skills and knowledge to assist students to learn and to achieve their potential as well as their personal goals and aspirations.
